Summer of cocktails: Spiked Arnold Palmer

by Jessie K on July 18, 2012

Today’s cocktail is an update of the Arnold Palmer, a classic summertime sip named after the golf pro that combines 1/2 sweet tea and 1/2 lemonade. In this version, ginger, mint and vodka are added to give it a little kick. If you want an even more pronounced flavor, allow the mashed mint and ginger to steep in the iced tea for an hour or so.

To make, mash 2 slices peeled fresh ginger and 6 fresh mint leaves in a jelly jar.  Add 1/3 cup sweetened iced tea, 1/3 cup lemonade and 1/4 cup vodka. Stir, add some ice, and find thee some shade.

(Recipe adapted from former Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn of DC restaurants Good Stuff Eatery and soon-to-be Bearnaise.)

I always heard that an Arnold Palmer with booze (vodka) in it was called a John Daly.
