The case of the mystery emu

by Jessie K on August 5, 2012

See this ostrich looking creature here?  It’s an emu and he’s become June’s favorite buddy.  He just showed up on my neighbor’s farm one day. Just showed up, just like that, which, call me crazy, is a little like wandering into your backyard and spotting a gazelle slurping from the kiddie pool.

Ha! Thanks – I really needed a chuckle today. Years ago here someone’s emu got loose, and went parading down the road right on the yellow line. (Sadly my camera was broken at the time). A local apparently called the police to report that someone’s “rooster” was standing in the road. Seems the local police department has nothing better to do than respond to escaped-rooster calls, and showed up at my house a few minutes later to inquire about my free-ranging emus. Not sure why I was the first suspect (ok, I keep too many chickens, but no emus!). I’m not sure they ever solved the mystery escaped-emu case…Ah, country life.

June would love the safari park! It has a lot of ee-moos and other great animals. August 6, 2012 at 10:37 am

I think you should get an emu!
