An afternoon of canning and gardening

by Jessie K on September 11, 2012

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending a ladies only garden club to talk about canning via my preserving cookbook Tart & Sweet.

Members brought horticulture and vegetable samples for judging. It was quite an array of blooms.

September — the season of ruddy colored mums.

The lunch menu was inspired by recipes from Tart & Sweet. We dined on cheese, chutney (check out a great autumn-inspired chutney recipe from Tart & Sweet here), grilled sausages slathered in homemade mustard, chilled tomato soup…

…and apple spice cake made with homemade apple butter.

It was great time, I ate a lot, and I met a lot of fantastic and inspiring ladies. (One of these years, I’m going to tackle flower gardening, I swear.) Thank you, gardeners, for the fun afternoon!
