No labor yet, but the other night a few friends came over for a low key baby shower. And by low key, I mean LOW KEY. I don’t need anything or want anything yet will you get a load of that wrap job on that present? It’s an explosion of tissue blossoms, worthy of Martha Stewart on speed. Some friends never listen. Some friends go all out.
After I opened a few gifts, we had a little sage “smudging” ceremony in which my buddy Chin, a clinical herbalist and founder of Soothing Herbals Apothecary (one of my longtime sponsors), lit a bundle of dried sage on fire and wafted the smoke around my body. Smudging is an ancient practice thought to purify the psyche and cleanse the soul. Afterward, my friends each took turns wafting the burning sage around my new house, a ritual for purifying a space and dislodging old, draggy energy. It’s a very mystical experience, as evidenced by my expression. I’m actually floating three inches off the ground in this picture.
