The chickens are free at last

by Jessie K on August 10, 2009

I couldn’t take it anymore. This weekend, the chickens were acting so cagey, having been locked up in their coop with only a 9 square foot patch of grass to walk on, I finally threw open the door to their coop and cried, Disperse, ye chickens! Disperse!

They are now officially free-range. No fences to hold them in (at least until the new portable electric fence arrives). So far, they seem to LOVE IT!  Their little pea brains are firing on all cylinders as they peck and dig for fresh bugs in the lawn. At dusk, they instinctively head back to the coop, where we shut ‘em up for the evening.  For the time being, all is good. Sunny still takes little interest in the flock.
