Little Squealer has finally been given a dignified name she can grow into. The soldiers named her Solha, pronounced “soul-ha,” which means “peace” in Dari. There’s not much for Jake to do on his day off so he ends up spending a good part of it with Solha, teaching her rudimentary commands like fetch. She and Jake took a drive past a nearby kebob shop that makes the most run down KFC in a derelict strip mall look like four star Michelin dining.
Bears remembering how good we have it in the USA….that is, if you can look beyond the whole U.S. government on the brink of default thing.
A pack of semi-wild dogs stopped by for a visit in the morning and hung around well into the evening. Solha was put back in her private dog run when the sun went down. Just to be on the safe side.
Solha. I like it.

Cool name – we certainly need peace in that part of the world. Thanks for sharing Jessie.
It sounds like a good name for what is a beautiful dog.
You and Jake give us a rare inside peak at the human, peaceful side of war. Thank you both for sharing so openly.
Thank you, Laura! And thank you for reading.
I would not be able to resist those pups…but what will happen when your beloved comes home? Would he be able to bring Solha with him?
