A walk through town

by Jessie K on October 24, 2011

It’s a gorgeous October morning in my small town.  Here’s a glimpse of what I see when I venture outside my office for a cup of coffee.

A grouping of gourds. Delightful.

Pretty petunias.

A row of greenery.

A massive assortment of bumper stickers on a truck.

The side of the truck is fused with an odd assortment of bric-a-brac: paint brushes, plastic figurines, key chains, combs.   Some call it art.  I call it the Dollar General on wheels.

And it wouldn’t be small town Virginia without at least one sighting of the ol’ Stars n Bars.  Memories are long around here.

A look at some of the specials flavors at the local ice cream store:  Mocha Chip, Cinnamon Graham, Pumpkin, Guiness.  What, no Hardtack?

What the–?

It’s Creepy Doll Shrine.

Even though it looks like some sort of modern art installation in honor of Halloween,  it’s not — Creepy Doll Shrine is a permanent fixture of my block.  The doll and the red chair never change, just her accessories.  I don’t know who the artist is — Dollar General guy?  – or their motive, but I swear she watches me every time I pass.  Scary.

Creepy Doll Shrine needs to make an appearance on the television series Criminal Minds. There’s a story there, with a dark side….Love the greens & gourds, though.

OK. That doll is just scary. Seriously, I’m creeped out all the way down here in Georgia! Yikes!

Weird and charming all at the same time! I love my crazy small town, too.

I made a batch on Banana Butter today. I so very carefully tended to the air bubbles and was sure there could be no air left inside the jars. I was wrong, same odd bubbles here and there in some jars. I researched online and the consensus is that sometimes that is just the way it is and as long as they don’t move or mold, you are fine.

I also carefully wiped all the tops of the jars with vinegar to help ensure the cleanliness of the product and protection of the seal. Everything is sealed, so I think I am just fine. I’ll keep a watch on them, just because that’s my personality. Thank you for your help. The pie was fabulous, and I really love the BVR Butter but am sure those with kids (who don’t quite believe alcohol usually cooks out) will prefer the non rum batch.

Just discovered your website through some pals at another blog. LOVE it!

Creepy doll is just a horror movie waiting to happen. I’m going to stalk your other posts now. :)

That skeletal hand coming out of her crotch is the worst thing about the whole “art installation”. But to tell the truth, my 81 year old Mom has 3 of the creepiest dolls I have ever seen. This dolly ain’t got nuthin’ on hers.

Yeah, the skeletal-hand-in-crotch look is never very flattering, is it?

Dolls can be very scary. They’re right up there with clowns.
