I have some friends who installed a zipline that they could attach their dogs harness to so that he could run around their unfenced yard while on potty breaks without a chance of him running away (the line ran from the house to a big tree, maybe 35' away, along the perimeter of their property and he had about 8' of line attached to his harness). Now that he's bigger, they don't hook him up every time, but he's learned his boundaries. I wouldn't suggest taking Solha off the zip line until Jake's been home for a while, but it may give her some freedom while on a potty break and you some relief from tugging on the leash!

"<em>spent with pent-up kujo</em>"

Um, when the dog arrives, how will you go about retraining her to know that home is "home", that straying can be fatal, that collars and tags stay <em>on</em the neck?

And have you got the fully enclosed (note dog demonstrates ability to climb, she won't <em>unlearn</em> that) dog run and shelter? Preferably with concrete (undiggable) slab foundation under all?

Have you mentioned the impending arrival with your veterinarian yet, for recommended health checks, to get vaccinations and status on her/his records? You might also get advice on adjusting the dog to the feeding regimen you propose.

Have you looked into dog training class, so that you are familiar with trusted techniques and approaches, and responsibilities, for training (retraining) a dog, and controlling unwanted behavior? Because I would assume that having the dog on a leash while you start introducing the concept of livestock-that-must-not-be-hunted will be a good idea. Most places a dog doesn't get a second chance, if it injures livestock. Or people.

It just seemed like there was more use for an extra 30 days than simply waiting . .

I pray that all goes well, with lots of preparation for success. Blessed be.

If she is in early heat her vulva will be bloody, as she gets further into heat and more fertile, her vulva will be swollen and dark pink. When not in heat the vulva is pale pink and dry, barely visible, even on a short-haired dog like her.

Having her spayed is a good idea, even if she's not pregnant now, better to have her recuperating from that surgery in the hands of pros, without you having to keep her locked up and be checking a sore wound for healing on a dog that doesn't trust you yet!

I'm really glad to hear they will spay her before her journey. I was hoping for that. It's great news. That will definitely curtail her desire to escape, as well. I continue to have faith in Jake's judgment regarding her temperament -he wouldn't send you a Kujo!

Jessie---you know me and what a doggie worry wart I am. Like you, I'd be losing sleep too. But in truth she is probably going to be a joy for you and June. Jake has a good dog sense and would not send you Kujo....treat the dog like a new puppy--keep her on a leash just like those city folk do and buy lots of fun chew toys and of course peanut butter can fix any problem. As for your chickens-teach her right off that they are friend not fowl--haha....poor humor is my specialty. You could always bring her over to meet my crazy dogs for a good romp--if you think she won't go all street fighter on them--she is a wild chic after all. One lick and sad eyed glanced and you'll be hooked on her. I'd be happy to go on leashed walks with you here in the lovely metropolis of Fairfield. Good luck--don't lose sleep. You gonna need your rest!

Everything will work out, just as its meant to. I really liked the advice from Andrea M. She's right, your job is to just keep her in a holding pattern until Jake gets home. Crate her, keep her busy with chewies, toys, kongs, marrow bones, etc. She'll think she died and went to heaven.

It will all work out. I sure wish I lived closer, I'd love to help!

Please don't lose anymore sleep over this Jessie. That won't do you, or June a bit of good. I don't thJake would put y'all in harm's way. No matter how much of a thrill seeker he is. Looks like your friends have given some great ideas. Just figure out what u want to do and what is the most feasible. You can do it. ;-)
